Srinagar, May 30 (KNO): Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in Srinagar passed off with smooth traffic movement across the city and its outskirts, as commuters and residents praised the efforts of the Traffic Police department for ensuring hassle-free vehicular movement despite heavy festive rush. From constables and Special Police Officers (SPOs) to senior officials, including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), traffic personnel remained stationed on roads throughout the day to regulate movement and assist commuters. Police also conducted enforcement drives at multiple locations across Srinagar, including the busy boulevard and several other key routes in downtown and uptown areas, during which several motorcycles were seized for violations, while many challans were issued against traffic offenders. The department remained on the ground throughout Eid to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians across the city. Special focus was laid on regulating traffic at busy junctions and major Eid congregation points, while enforcement drives against violators were also intensified. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), DySP Traffic Srinagar Mehboob-ul-Haq said traffic management remained largely successful, especially around the Eidgah area, where coordinated planning helped avoid congestion. “With the help of Waqf Board Srinagar, we arranged parking facilities inside Eidgah premises, which helped keep the roads free and traffic movement smooth. People cooperated well and parked their vehicles in designated spaces, making movement fast and hassle-free,” he said. The DySP said the department kept special focus on two-wheelers during the Eid days, adding that a significant number of challans were issued while several vehicles were also seized during checking drives. “With Eid rush on roads, our teams remained active throughout the day. Like every year, most of our Eid was spent on roads ensuring smooth movement for the public,” he said. Locals and commuters appreciated the role of the Traffic Police, saying visible deployment of officials on roads helped prevent traffic jams and ensured smooth movement even during peak hours. “We witnessed traffic police personnel standing on roads since morning, despite Eid celebrations. Their presence made movement very easy for us and deserves appreciation,” said Adil Ahmad, a commuter from downtown Srinagar. Another resident, Shabir Hussain from Nishat Srinagar, said traffic movement this year remained comparatively smoother around major Eid congregation areas. “The arrangements, especially parking management near Eidgah, really helped people. We reached and returned without facing major jams,” he added—(KNO)
